Sulfur Bacteria

What is Sulfur Bacteria?
Sulfate-reducing bacteria are those bacteria that obtain their energy by oxidizing organic compounds or molecular hydrogen H2 while reducing sulfates to sulfides. In a sense, they "breathe" sulfate rather than oxygen.

Why is it bad?
Sulfur bacteria has a very obnoxious odor and can prevent water treatment systems from functioning properly. Typically, these problems continue to get worse until they are dealt.

How do I know I have Sulfur Bacteria?

  • If you have a system designed to remove sulfur, and you still have the smell, you may have sulfur bacteria.
  • Slime in your well, plumbing, or toilet tank
  • Sulfur smell

What are some Sulfur Bacteria solutions?
The only solution for bacteria is disinfection. Disinfection can be done with two methods; chlorination or ozonation. Bacterial contamination is a complex water problem due to the combination of contaminants and water qualities, and you should consult WaterPro before tackling any bacterial problem.
