Iron Bacteria
What is Iron Bacteria?
Iron bacteria are bacteria that derive the energy they need to live and multiply by oxidizing dissolved ferrous iron.
Why is it bad?
Iron bacteria combine dissolved iron or manganese with oxygen and use it to form rust-colored deposits. In the process, the bacteria produce a brown
slime that builds up on well screens, pipes, and plumbing fixtures.
How do I know I have Iron Bacteria?
- A very obvious slime on your water
- An oily sheen on top of standing water (like your toilet bowl)
- Apparent iron staining even if you have an iron removal system
What are some Iron Bacteria solutions?
The only solution for bacteria is disinfection. Disinfection can be done with two methods; chlorination or ozonation. Bacterial contamination is a complex water problem due to the combination of contaminants and water qualities, and you should consult WaterPro before tackling any bacterial problem.
